As a curious person, I love doing experiments to apply new learnings. They might involve drawing, visual design, production or code practices, efficiency tweaks, even spreadsheet trickery. Although this is separate from billable client work, it is never a waste of time. Giving my learning and trying muscles a workout keeps me fit for project work, and often is how I incorporate new ways of providing value for clients.
